Snow! in Raleigh - Cary - Wake County NC - Snow!

Snow in Wake County NC is a major event! At the first sign of a snowflake everyone is calling or emailing or tweeting or texting:  SNOW! IT'S SNOWING! Hooray! SNOW!

It has been several years since the last significant snow/ice storm of about an inch in 2005 crippled the Raleigh area with icey roads and accidents!  Many children spent the night in school - buses and parents couldn't get there to pick them up.

Raleigh Skyline's Matt Robinson has a great account of the 2005 snow/ice event entitled "The Half Inch of Snow that Paralyzed Raleigh" .

You may be new to Raleigh or surrounding areas. You may be from "up north" where snow plows are abundant and life doesn't slow down too much when it snows but you're in Wake County NC now - so when it snows here are more Rules :

If it snows anywhere near Wake County NC you should:

  • Stay home - that means DO NOT go to work! Don't go shopping! (stores are probably closed)  Don't go anywhere unless you walk.
  • Make Snow Angels and Snowmen
  • Drink Hot Chocolate
  • Not worry about shoveling - it should be gone in a day or two
  • Go for a long walk with the dog - you'll meet neighbors you've not met before
  • ENJOY!
