Happy Mother's Day Mom! I still miss you after 45 years!

Happy Mother's Day Mom! I still miss you after 45 years!
So another Mother's Day Weekend is here.  And another bittersweet weekend is here.  My Mom passed away when I was 12 (add it up 12 + 45 = 57)  Holy Cow, I can't believe I'm THAT old

My Mom was just 36 years old.  I was 12 and my brother was 5 years old.  She had breast cancer.  And 45 years ago "cancer" was not a word hardly spoken out loud in our community.

Mom

And we didn't have the technology available to us that is today.  The doc's back then didn't think anything of the lump she found - after all the baby was still nursing (she'd had the cancer for at least 4 years); and the lump is probably "your milk glands".  By the time someone woke up, it was too late....or maybe it was too late from the start...who knows?

Tamara Petys Tychoneckyj lived about 4 years after diagnosis; treatments of some sort in Elizabeth NJ on a regular basis.  She left notes for me and my brother on the backs of photographs; all over the house. The pictures were framed so it took a while to find them after her death.  No internet blogging back then!  She told me to take care of my little brother. (A tough assignment when I was a teenager).

So Mother's Day has always been a bit bittersweet for me.  I still miss her and I wonder what our relationship would be throughout all these years if she was here.

I have 3 children, all grown now.  And I cherish the time I spend with them.  Also got a silly, full of life grand daughter.  BUT still I wish my Mom was here.

That's it for now.   Back to business and "regular" stuff tomorrow.

Happy Mother's Day.  Oh, one last thing:  Check yourself monthly; have a mammogram done yearly.

Happy Mother's Day Week - and being a Grandma is FUN!

Mother's Day has been a good day for me for many years.  I remember breakfast in bed (frozen waffles & OJ); awesome grade school plants in painted pots; hand prints in plaster...good old days. But a lot of responsibility raising a daughter & 2 sons.

I'm a grand parent now for a year and a half.  And I LOVE it.  ALL the fun and NO responsibility!!!

I spent the day with my daughter & grand daughter.  Although they live close, we are in major remodel of our home, I still have to work hard at being a real estate agent, and also be "clean-up" woman after construction almost every day (I'm pretty good with the broom & trash removal now)...so a full "girls" day together is somewhat limited.

We "played" hide the stuffed animals, watered the garden, read lots of books.  And then we did some chores...emptying the dishwasher finally got to her....and she needed to take a quick rest....

Dishwasher Girls Day

I hope you all have a good week with family and friends!  And Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!!!  Enjoy every minute.
