All of a sudden it is well after midnight. May I share something special with you, something extraordinary that I discovered some time ago? Let's all ease into Monday by listening to the music of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Here is his recording of "Wind Beneath My Wings".
Even if you've never heard his name, his soul stirring rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" may be familiar to you. Israel's version of this song has been featured as background music in a number of movies and television shows. After the third or fourth time hearing that song I couldn't stand not knowing who sang it, so I googled the song title and came across a number of videos on YouTube introducing me to the amazing Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.
I am passing on my wish to you that you will be as taken with his voice as I was and you will also be tempted to explore his other music. You deserve the opportunity to learn about the life of this man and his efforts to expose the rest of the world to the beauty of Hawaiian heritage.
Enjoying a piece of music that you can't identify can certainly be enjoyable, but satisfying your curiosity and taking time to look beneath the surface of a lovely song can be so much more satisfying. Give yourself this gift and then pass it on. Some things are just better when shared.
